Review of Officer.com Law Enforcement Forums · 610 days ago
I just discovered the Police Officer & Law Enforcement Forums at Officer.com today. I have a lot of faith in humanity, normally, but right now that faith is being questioned. If the members of these forums are at all a representation of the members of law enforcement we entrust to protect and serve, then we’re in more of a mess than you’d be able to tell from reading about sporadic reports of police brutality.
The forums have tens of thousands of users, most of whom are supposedly members of law enforcement. The site warns you with a disclaimer when you register, as well as at the top of the page at all times, “We Reserve the Right to Remove Non-LEO Members, Anti-LE or Inappropriate Posts and Users Without Warning.” So it’s not a mix of cops and interested citizens – if you’re exposed as a non-LEO they will revoke your account. The forums seem to be almost an echo chamber because of this – lots of patting each other on the back, and offering sympathy for each other in posts about gripes and complaints.
If you want to know about law enforcement culture in the USA, this is a good place to start. A lot of the common themes I discovered here are that most officers feel that inmates don’t have or should not have any civil rights; immigrants have no rights or should have no rights and should be deported using any excuse possible; blacks aren’t held to the same standard as white males and any criticism of white males is unjustified so long as a black male goes uncriticized for a somewhat similar action; racial profiling is a smart way to detect criminals; snitching on your family and friends is the honorable and reasonable thing to do; and a whole lot of other morally repugnant attitudes. I found posts openly talking about bribing prosecutors and other public officials. I think they have a right to their opinions of course, but don’t you find it scary that such a large number of law enforcement officers out there hold these views? Even one law enforcement officer with these types of opinions is scary to me.
It’s also quite obvious there is a strong bond between members of the law enforcement community. They’re willing to stand up for each other and ignore each others’ crimes. There is no doubt in my mind the classic ‘code of silence’ is stronger than ever amongst law enforcement, reducing the chances that any citizens expressing their rights to freedom and the pursuit of happiness are going to receive any real justice via our legal system. Here are some choice quotes from posts, there are thousands more and many better ones than these:
Roosevelt50: You would arrest a Leo for having a fit because your going to write him for 25 over? Are you kidding….you don’t have anything better to do? Busting a brothers balls and filling your ticket quota is your idea of law enforcment. I don’t know one officer here that would graciously take a summon from a another officer. I’d say you’ve ben patrolling the “big road” too long because your brain has shifted to the right side of your head from making left turns all day.
detsarg: I hate to have to quote from another Web site but I love this comment in relation to this video…“They told that little college punk 114 times to stand up. He should not have been Tased 5 times, he should have been Tased 113 times.
Little snot nose, know it all, tree huggin’, left wing, daddy’s dime, silver spoon, wet behind the ears, no life experience, still on momma’s t1t, PUNK A$S.
That brat and his “I want your badge number” lacrosse playing f@ggots need to get their narrow little a$ses in the military and learn some respect.
Pick up a rifle and fight for the freedom you so richly enjoy in your cushy little college library.”
e-man: THis is for the liberal I WANT YOUR BADGE NUMBERs and This is an ABUSE of Power whiners…THE WHAAAAAMBULANCE
