'50 Shots' police officers indicted on manslaughter charges · 626 days ago

The police officers who fired 50 shots into the car of unarmed victim Sean Bell killing him and wounding two others were indicted for first-degree and second-degree manslaughter as well as other charges on Friday, three months after the crime took place.

Two New York City police detectives were charged with first-degree and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Sean Bell, the unarmed 23-year-old black man who died in a burst of 50 police bullets, the Queens District Attorney, Richard Brown, said at a news conference today.

The eight-count indictment was handed up by a grand jury on Friday and unsealed this morning. In it, Det. Michael Oliver, 35, who fired his pistol 31 times, and Det. Gerard Isnora, 28, an undercover officer who fired 11 shots, are charged with both first-degree and second-degree manslaughter in Mr. Bell’s death, Mr. Brown said.

Hundreds protest police shooting of Sean Bell · 714 days ago

Leaders of New York’s black community have vowed protests until they see justice for Bell and have already held two rallies, including a march by several thousand people down Fifth Avenue on Saturday.

Organizers said another protest was being planned for the
United Nations headquarters in January.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said it was “unacceptable or inexplicable” that 50 shots were fired, while Kelly has set up a panel to review the police department’s undercover operations and policy.

Estaba en reinas cuando ocurrió esto que tiraba. Mientras que caminé a través de la ciudad la mañana próxima, vi títulos del periódico sobre ella en cada caja del periódico. Éste es una de las historias más ridículas y más tristes de la brutalidad del policía que he oído en un rato. ¿Cincuenta tiros encendidos en los sospechosos quiénes no tenían ninguna arma, y estaban bajo investigación al lado de una vice escuadrilla del crimen? No cuido qué clase de droga/crimen de la prostitución ella estaba potencialmente implicada adentro, vaciando sus clips en el coche cuando no se encendió ningunos tiros siempre detrás son indignantes. Incluso Michael Bloomberg, alcalde de la ciudad, está llamando éste como él es. El rapper Papoose de Brooklyn lanzó una pista llamada “50 tiros” que ventilaron en la estación 97 calientes del rap este fin de semana.
